Here we are gathered together for mother’s day, 12 years ago.

Day 28 of HEARTS!

Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. Here is an example of three generations who love hearts. The first image is of an embroidered greeting card that my mom made. The second is an image of the beginnings of my class Embroidered from the Heart. The third is my most favorite valentine, from our daughter Gwen.

Day 27 of HEARTS!

Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. These two wall hangings begin with a jean fabric base and one of my favorite fabrics, the floral print that the hearts are cut from. The heart shapes are bordered by a dyed leaf trim, and are surrounded by silk ribbonwork flowers and leaves, and silk ribbon embroidery.

Day 26 of HEARTS!

Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. Pictured here are two friends of mine that share my work space. Lizbeth is a doll that I created using a felt body and wire arms and legs, her clothing is attached almost like a paper doll. She was part of a blog challenge series called Dress-UP, check out the details of her dress for the month of February here. Rose Marie is a mixed media doll that I made from an old paint brush, cardboard packaging, plastic roses, paper mache lady bugs, vine trim, ribbonwork leaves, paper leaves, and crocheted roses that my mom made.

Day 25 of HEARTS!

Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. You may also know that I love buttons, all buttons, I can’t get enough of buttons. The first three pictures are of the brooches from my Vintage at Heart class. The last picture is a wreath that I made using a vintage embroidered lace collar, vintage velvet leaves, and yes heart shapes covered in mother of pearl buttons. So grand to be able to use these treasures and enjoy them.

Day 24 of HEARTS! Serendipity

Day 24 of HEARTS!

Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. The base of this heart-shaped wall hanging is made from two cotton batik fabrics, strip pieced together with a v-shaped section in the middle of the heart. The embroidered flowers and leaves are worked in silk embroidery ribbon, silk floss, and buttonhole twist. Sequins, glass beads, buttons and flower shaped rondelles were added in for details. Rayon cord was couched around the outer edge. The stitches and example can be found The Embroidery Book.

Day 23 of HEARTS!

Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. This heart-shaped wire form is covered in ribbonwork flowers and leaves, with a a few vintage buttons sprinkled among the blooms. I used vintage and new satin ribbons, sheer ribbon from a gift package, vintage rayon hem-tape, and dyed Hannah silk bias ribbon. This wreath was featured in the gallery section of my book Ribbonwork Gardens.

Day 22 of HEARTS!

Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. This heart-shaped etui is another example of my class Log Cabin Heart Etui and Pincushion. It was featured as a gallery example in The Embroidery Book.

Day 21 of HEARTS!

Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. In the 1st photo you see that I removed the pocket from the back leg of a pair of jeans. In the 2cd photo you see Blue Jean Baby” a small wall hanging that I made, the vase is a heart shaped doily, and it is filled with ribbonwork flowers from my first book Ribbonwork Gardens. In the 3rd photo you see the pocket adorned with a heart shaped crochet doily that my mom made. The doily is adorned with embroidered appliques, tatted flowers (that my mom made), ribbonwork flowers, silk ribbon trim and buttons. In the 4th photo you can see that I embroidered hearts onto the other side of the pant leg.

Day 20 of HEARTS! Lovely Silk Gardens Wallhanging

Day 20 of HEARTS!

Many of you know that I love hearts! I love the shapes and all of the possibilities. “Lovely Silk Gardens Wallhanging” is a project from my book Embroidered and Embellished. There are four heart shaped appliques which started as a hanky. The silk ribbon ebmroidery stitches were worked in sizes 7mm, 4mm, and 2mm. The additional embroidery stitches were worked in cotton and silk floss. Embellishments include heart shaped buttons, leaf shaped buttons and dragonfly and butterfly charms.
