Tassels, The Ultimate Furniture Jewelry

I have always loved tassels, and my home is filled with these lovely adornments. Here are a few of the unique tassels that I created for classes or just myself.

Persephone’s Bell

This floral tassel definitely belongs in a fairy tale. The top of the tassel is a dyed gourd; the tassel itself is made from wire ribbon formed into gorgeous fuchsias. Wire leaves and silk flowers are also made to enhance the piece. Beads and charms and ribbon worked leaves complete the tassel, adding a silk cord to hang from your fairy garden trellis.

Morning Glory Tassel

The Morning Glory Tassel showcases the many different types of ribbons that I carry in my store. The tassel top was made from a cardboard tube covered with vintage jacquard ribbon. The top was then embellished with hand made flowers and ribbons from the French Wire Ribbon section. The tassel fringes are made from the Hanah Silk Ribbons, 7mm silk ribbon, gauze ribbon and novelty yarns.

Cotillion Tassel

A very feminine addition to any space inhabited by a woman, perhaps hung on her boudoir mirror or sewing room. The base of the tassel is covered with a small bit of tapestry fabric that is adorned with velvet ribbons and charms. Jacquard ribbons and silk cords are stitched with beads and more ribbon and dangle from the base. These dangles are encrusted with beads and charms. The stem of the silk cord becomes a very stylized fuchsia made from French wire ribbon.

Parisian Couture Tassel

Ribbons and beads are combined to create a magical, colorful, embroidered and festooned tassel. French jacquard ribbon is stitched onto a base with embroidery and beads, which is used for the tassel top. The fringe is a luscious array of Hanah silk bias ribbons combined with beads.

Floral Pastoral Tassel

Floral Pastoral Tassel showcases the many different types of ribbon and their versatility. The tassel top was made from machine stitched cotton paper, reinforced with Timtex, stitched by machine and formed into the shape. The tassel top was then embellished with hand made flowers and ribbons from the Crazy Quilt Ribbon section and our French Wire Ribbon section. The lace and some of the ribbons were hand dyed using the Color Hue dyes. The tassel fringes are made from the Hanah Silk Ribbons. A sprinkling of silk ribbon embroidery and glass beads were added for extra sparkle.

Hope that your home is filled with treasures too!

Persephone’s Bell Tassel- ribbonwork

Persephone's Bell Tassel

Persephone’s Bell Tassel

I love tassels or furniture jewelry if you will. I like to create them from unusual components, and have hung them throughout my house. This example is from my Persephone’s Bell pattern and definitely belongs in a fairy tale.

The top of the tassel is a dyed gourd with the stem still attached, too cute! The gourd is embellished with French wire ribbon leaves and a silk cord is used for hanging.

The gourd was pierced at intervals to hang the tassels and vines below the opening. French wire ribbons were formed into gorgeous fuchsias and hang from ruched Hanah silk bias ribbons. Flowers made from Hanah silk bias ribbons are hung from wrapped Artistic wire, and further enhanced with beads and charms.

This is a pretty addition to hang from any fairy garden trellis!

The Cotillion Tassel- ribbons and beads

The Cotillion Tassel

The Cotillion Tassel

This tassel is a most feminine tassel, perfect to adorn that special armoire or chest of drawers. I have made several tassels in my time, and I hang them on an old fence post that my husband attached to the wall.

This tassel is a sample from my Cotillion Tassel pattern. The tassel is embellished with hand made flowers and leaves using a variety of ribbons and trims including:

  • Rayon Velvet
  • Vintage French Jacquard
  • 10mm French Ombre
  • French Wire Ribbon
  • Hanah silk cord
  • Rococo Trim

The velvet ribbons were stitched into leaves and used at the top of the tassel as well as the calyx for the modified fuchsias which are made from the French wire ribbon. The vintage French jacquard has a disc at the bottom and is embellished with seed beads. The rococo trim is wrapped around the silk cord which is further embellished with beads and charms. Flowers made from the wire and the ombre ribbons are sprinkled around the top of the tassel.

To finish off the embellishments I added in stamens for the flowers, glass butterflies and leaves, and metal flower shaped charms.

Enjoy! Christen

Floral Pastoral Tassel: ribbonwork

Floral Pastoral Tassel

Floral Pastoral Tassel

I love flowers, I love spring-time and I love tassels!

The Floral Pastoral Tassel showcases the many different types of ribbon and their versatility. I used 5/8″ and 1″ French wire ribbon; 3/8″ picot edge ribbon; 3/8″ vintage grosgrain and jacquard ribbons; 2mm silk embroidery ribbon; and Hanah silk bias ribbons in sizes 7/16″, 5/8″ and 1″.

The tassel top was made from machine stitched cotton paper, reinforced with Timtex, the technique much like the one used in Aurelia’s Garden and Fairie Tea Party. It was then embellished with hand made flowers and leaves, ribbon embroidery with beaded accents.

The tassel skirt is a lace that is made from a cotton/rayon blend. I dyed the lace with the Color Hue dyes, which were the same ones that I use in the Scrumptious Scraps project.

Enjoy your life, love lots and create when you can! Happy stitching! Christen
