Angel of My Heart: The Three Muses Challenge

mixed media collage

Angel of my Heart

Over at The Three Muses the challenge this week was to use an angel in your art. Here is my entry with a lovely little angel that I found at the thrift store. The true Angel of my heart is Gwen our daughter, who by the way gave me all the cards that I have used here in this collage.

Thanks for the great challenge ladies! Christen

The Music Room: Art Creations Friday

The Music Room

The Music Room

This is my entry for Art Creations Friday, Challenge #42.

Hilda pondered as she was gliding through the music room whether or not to tell Grammy that the moths had gotten rather large in here. La, la, la, la, la, la…..perhaps another time….

All of the butterflies and moths are Dover images except for the largest butterfly which was from the Vintage Moth.

Enjoy- Christen

Through the Fairie’s Window: TTM Challenge

Through the Fairies Window

Through the Fairie's Window

The challenge this week over at The Three Muses was to use a window in your work. Please stop by and see the rest of the entries, they are always creative and wonderfully varied!

I started with a cardboard box from my face lotion which I had taken out the clear cellophane window. I gathered three greeting cards and cut, painted and cropped until I got the right length for each image. I glued these onto the box along with bits of vintage lace. I then added a clear glaze which crazed wonderfully (but I don’t think that it was supposed to!). The box is 6-1/2″ tall x 3-1/2″ wide x 1-3/8″ deep.

I added a vine of fabric leaves along the edges; a vintage celluloid pin of pink roses; vintage paper roses which are peaking out of the inside of the box and the top of the box; vintage painted glass leaves; mother of pearl butterfly charms; gold dragonfly charms; plastic fairy charms; a glass lady bug; and handmade flowers made from vintage ruffled ribbon.

Through the Fairie’s Window

Peering through the garden’s window
Amongst the roses and the garden vine,

I see you are already waiting there for me
Fairy fare dear friend of mine.

Who is looking through your window and asking you to play? Enjoy your day! Christen

Narcissus Noire: The Three Muses Challenge

Narcisus Noire

Narcissus Noire

This is my entry for The Three Muses weekly challenge. This week which is “Art in the Round“. I chose to work on a bracelet and a pin. I chose the name Narcissus Noire, because the coloring of the paper, the buttons and the ribbon reminded me of an old black and white movie. I also chose the name because it was my grandmother’s favorite perfume, (Black Narcissus) which I wore for many years also.

The bracelet is made from cardboard tube left over from a spool of ribbon. I covered the cardboard base with an ornately decorated vintage piece of sheet music. I then added strips cut from an old Valentine’s Day card, and strips from a piece of art paper left over from my last project.

I painted in splashes of color with gray and black acrylic paints and added swirls with silver Lumiere paints. When this was dry I glued on vintage celluloid buttons and hand blown glass beads. These I decorated with more silver paint.

braceletThe inside of the bracelet is covered in the same sheet of music, and circles cut from the art paper.

The pin base is a piece of cardboard cut from the top of the spool of ribbon. I painted a piece of sheet music with mod podge tinted with black dye. I used this to cover the cardboard base.

I stitched this ribbon rosette from a French wire ribbon with the same coloring as the buttons. I touched up the ribbon and the glass button center with silver paint. The stem of the flower is made from vintage glass leaves which are also sprinkled amongst the silk ribbon cord.

The old silk tie I liberated from the box that my husband puts the ties in that he no longer wears and I will probably make a neck- piece to go with the rest of the set.

Happy creating, pasting, gluing, and getting sticky! Christen
