fiber art

Close up view of pieced fabric embellished shi sha mirrors and bead embellishment.

Date Created: October 1991
Created especially for: American Quilter's society Fashion Show- 2cd ;ace winner
Line: Jacket, skirt, belt, scarf
Techniques: Machine piecing, quilting and appliqué; free form embroidery, couching and bed embellishment
Fabrics: cotton, silk, hand dyed cotton

This piece was created around the fat quarter of hand dyed fabric that I used for the center front and back sections. I added additional dyes and paints to the fabric which is pieced with a wonderful floral cotton print, and solid colored silk fabrics that I bought at the Bazaar del Mundo.

The base of the jacket was pieced and appliquéd in sections, with machine quilting embellishments. Hand embroidered with shi sha mirrors and glass bead embellishment that all add to this sparkling creation.

The scarf is made entirely from Hanah silk ribbon. The skirt is made from a silk ikat fabric that I also purchased at the Bazaar's Fabrics and Finery Shop.

The jacket is loosely based on the class that I teach Medallion Treasures.
