The Lady of Avalon
From fern- filled forest - To shell- lined shore - Her enchanted spirit - Shall dwell evermore - CB
The inspiration for this ensemble was the wonderful 1920's coat pattern from Folkwear. Both the coat and hat are made from this pattern. The coat was pieced with cotton fabrics, many Hoffman Bali Batiks; the hat and purse (my own design) are made entirely from vintage sari borders. The same sari borders were used as the collar, cuffs and hem on the coat.
Once the coat was pieced together, the fabric was quilted with metallic threads in a twin needle. The pieced sections were then embellished with silk bias ribbon stitched into branch sections. These section have hand appliqué vintage cotton lace, floral millinery leaves, and hand stitched ribbon berries. The floral arrangements are embroidered with silk ribbon and thread and metallic embroidery threads. These sections were embellished with new and vintage glass and abalone beads; and glass charms and buttons.
The skirt was a vintage hippie skirt I found at a thrift store, I added additional embroidered fabric and many ribbons and trims to bring out all of the colors used in the jacket. The blouse was made from embroidered fabric from India. The scarf was made from five different widths of Hanah Silk bias ribbon.
The jewelry ensemble that I created for this outfit is called Avalon.
